Grace Instrument Software Updates

If you are in need of Grace Instrument installation software, please contact Grace Instrument to obtain an installation disk.

Starting on November 1, 2011, replacement disks for Grace Instrument control software will be provided at a cost of $199.00 for out-of-warranty customers. Each copy will have a unique serial number for tracking purposes and will be shipped within 1 business day.

Customers whose machines are still within their warranty periods may request one extra copy (or one replacement copy) of the control software at no charge. Additional copies will be charged at $199.00. Each new machine will be shipped with one copy of the control software, and another copy can be ordered during the warranty period at no charge. Software updates will continue to be available from the Grace Instrument web site at no charge.

Note: Before updating any Grace Instrument software, it is strongly advised that you back up your existing database files, which end with the ".mdb" or ".accdb" suffix. This database file contains all user-created tests and all test results. If you value your existing test data, it is strongly advised that you follow the instructions below and keep the backup file stored in a safe location.

To back up your database (".mdb" or ".accdb") file:

  1. In Windows Explorer, open the folder where the Grace Instrument software is installed.

    The default installation folder under Windows 9x to XP for most Grace Instrument software is C:\Program Files\[INSTRUMENT MODEL NUMBER or SOFTWARE NAME].

    For example, M3600DAQ™ for the M3600 Viscometer is installed in the folder C:\Program Files\M3600DAQ.

    The folder containing your database under Windows Vista or Windows 7 is C:\Users\[YOUR_ACCOUNT]\AppData\Local\
    VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\[INSTRUMENT MODEL NUMBER or SOFTWARE NAME]    .

    For example, M7500DAQ™ for the M7500 Ultra HPHT Rheometer is installed in the folder C:\Users\[YOUR _ACCOUNT]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\M7500DAQ.

    (Note that a copy of M7500daq.mdb can be found in C:\Program Files\M7500 on Win Vista/7 systems, but this database file is inert and will not contain any changes you make to the database, such as adding, modifying, or deleting tests or test result files.  The database to back up and protect on a Windows Vista or Win7 system is the one contained in the folder
    C:\Users\YOUR_ACCOUNT\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86).
    This discrepancy is necessary to accommodate older operating systems.)

    Or, if you specified a different folder during initial installation, open that folder instead.

  2. Locate the database file by looking for a file with the suffix ".mdb" or ".accdb". (For example, "M3500a.mdb" or "M5600.accdb").
  3. Copy the ".mdb" or ".accdb" file to a secure location on your hard drive, or to a backup drive, if you have one.

To restore a backed-up database file:

  1. Reinstall the Grace Instrument software from the original media included with the instrument.
  2. Copy the ".mdb" or ".accdb" file from the backup directory to the directory containing the Grace Instrument software installation (or other appropriate folder), overwriting the default database file.

M3500 Viscometer

Updating Gracedaq for M3500a™ to version 1.1.9:

IMPORTANT: Gracedaq for M3500a™ v. 1.1.9 is incompatible with database files created by all previous versions. If you want to use an existing database file created using a version of Gracedaq for M3500a™ earlier than v. 1.1.9, do not update your Gracedaq for M3500a™ software.

The Gracedaq for M3500a™ software update includes an executable (".exe") file, a report (".rpt") file, and a database (".mdb") file.

  1. Download the following three files to your desktop, or to a folder on your hard drive (click the file names below to download):
  1. Replace the existing versions.

Updating M3500Frac.exe:

  1. Download M3500Frac.exe v.1.0.3 (664 kB)
  2. Replace the existing version.

Updating M3500ph.exe:

  1. Download M3500pH.exe (updated 07-16-09, 664 kB)
  2. Replace the existing version.

M3600 Viscometer

Updating M3600DAQ.exe:

  1. Download M3600DAQ.exe v.1.2.0.6 (Updated 09-03-10, 772 kB)
  2. Replace the existing version (default location: C:\Program Files\M3600DAQ.)
    (NOTE: M3600DAQ stores the working database file in this directory on all versions of Windows, from 9x to 7.)

Updating M3600Frac.exe:

  1. Download M3600Frac.exe v.1.2.0.4 (Updated 11-22-11-, 664 kB)
  2. Replace the existing version (default location: C:\Program Files\M3600Frac.)
    (NOTE: M3600Frac stores the working database file in this directory on all versions of Windows, from 9x to 7.)

M3600DAQ.exe Change Log:

V.1.2.0.6 (09-03-10):

  1. Replaced out-of-date Help file with PDF manual
    Manual file must be named 3600_manual.pdf and be placed in M3600DAQ installation directory to function from menu.

V.1.2.0.5 (05-19-10):

M3600Frac.exe Change Log:

V.1.2.0.4 (11-22-11):

  1. Modified test setup step display to allow up to 8 digits.

M4600 HPHT Linear Swell Meter

Updating M4600daq.exe:

  1. Download M4600daq.exe v.1.1.0.2 (Updated 09-29-10, 656 kB)
  2. Download calib.dat (09-01-10, 1 kB) (Note: Right-click, choose "Save Target As".)
  3. Replace the existing versions (default location: C:\Program Files x86\M4600DAQ.)
    (NOTE: M4600DAQ stores the working database file and calibration file in this directory on all versions of Windows, from 9x to 7.)

M4600daq.exe Change Log:

M5052 HPHT Rheometer

Updating M5052Frac.exe:

  1. Download M5052Frac.exe (888 kB)
  2. Replace the existing version.
M5500 HPHT Rheometer

Updating M5500Frac.exe:

  1. Download M5500Frac.exe v. 1.2.0.2 (12-27-11, 956 kB)
  2. Replace the existing version (default location: C:\Program Files\M5500.)

M5500.exe Change Log:

V.1.2.0.2 (12-27-11):

  1. Modified call to Microsoft Excel to allow the use of Microsoft Excel 2010.
M5600 HPHT Rheometer

IMPORTANT: The latest M5600 software update is incompatible with database files created by all versions earlier than v.2.1.0.7. If you want to use an existing database file created using a version of M5600.exe earlier than v.2.1.0.7, do not update your M5600 software.

If you wish to upgrade from a version of M5600.exe earlier than v.2.1.0.7, you will need to download both the executable (".exe") file and a new database (".mdb") file.

Updating M5600.exe (version 2):

  1. Download M5600.exe v.2.2.0.3 (Updated 12-22-11, 1.40 mB)
  2. Replace the existing version.

If you are upgrading a version of M5600.exe v.2.1.0.7 or later, you do not need to download a new version of M5600.mdb.

Updating M5600.mdb (to replace database files created with M5600 PC™ versions earlier than M5600 PC v.2.1.0.7):

  1. Download M5600.mdb (1.84 MB)

Please note: file is a .zip file, you must unzip it before it can be used by M5600 PC.

  1. Replace the existing version.

If you are running M5600 PC version 3, here is the latest build.

If you are not running M5600 PC version 3.0.0.0, do not download & install this update, as it is incompatible with databases created with M5600 v.2.

If you are interested in upgrading to M5600 PC version 3 from version 2, contact Grace Instrument to obtain an installation disk. Versions 2 and 3 can be installed and run on the same system.

  1. Download M5600_v3.2.0.8.exe (12-06-11, 1.70 MB)
  2. Replace the existing version.
  3. (OPTIONAL - Not necessary unless you want to replace your existing 3.0 database)
    Download M5600.accdb.
  4. Replace existing version.

M5600.exe Change Log:

V.2.2.0.3 (12-22-11):

M5600v3.exe Change Log:

M7500 Ultra HPHT Rheometer & M8500 HPHT Dynamic Sagging Tester

Note: M7500daq™ is used for both the M7500 Ultra HPHT Rheometer and the M8500 HPHT Dynamic Sagging Tester.

This version of M7500daq.exe is compatible with both the M7500-2 (hardware capable of pressure up to 20,000 psi) and the M7500-3 (hardware capable of pressure up to 30,000 psi.) It will not enable M7500-2 hardware to pressurize higher than 20,000 psi.

  1. Download M7500daq.exe v.1.2.0.21 (Updated 12-08-11, 1.30 MB)
  2. Replace the existing version.

Note: Version 1.1.0.17 and later includes a new k' and n' unit choice. Databases created with previous versions will display this error on startup.

Click OK to clear the error message.

To resolve the problem, click the Setup button, then click the Hardware & Misc Setup tab. You will see the KUnit Selection:   M7500daq KUnit controls
Choose the selection type you wish to use and click the Save button. Restart M7500daq to confirm your changes.

Version 1.2.0.20 and later includes a new option to set the number of points to average. Databases created with previous versions will display this error on startup.

Click OK to clear the error message.

  
To resolve the problem, click the Setup button, then click the Hardware & Misc Setup tab. You will see the option to Take average points.  
Choose the number of points you wish to use to average and click the Save button. Restart M7500daq to confirm your changes.

M7500daq.exe Change Log:

V.1.2.0.21 (01-26-12):

  1. Corrected error causing automatic shutdown.

V.1.2.0.20 (12-08-11):
